“Portland Yacht Club is a fun sailing and social focus for Portland Marina”
Portland Yacht Club was created in late 2010 by a group of Portland Marina berth holders who wanted something local that would enhance their enjoyment of boating, but with an emphasis on informality and a minimum of rules and regulations.
We do not care what sort of vessel you have your fun in as long as it floats. Yachties, motorboatbers and RIB-ers are all welcome at PYC. We also welcome membership from non-boat owners, who may be aspiring to get a boat, who just want to talk things nautical, or perhaps get crewing opportunities.
After several ups and downs, the Club is being revived with a new commodore, keen members and a developing schedule of activities. The commodore is Christine Swain, captain of 'Sea Sqaured' on berth K7. Christine says "I have been a berth holder at Portland since the marina opened, having arrived after ten year tenure at Haslar. In that time I have met some lovely people, and I hope that by getting them together within the PYC, we can build a club that really adds something to everyone’s enjoyment of this beautiful water based pastime.
Many of you may have seen me around the marina, but please do make yourselves known if not; call at the boat “Sea Squared” on K7 if you would like to know more about the plans for the PYC. I would encourage you all to join, and help shape the way in which the club develops; so that everyone’s’ boating interests are included. Already some exciting and unique combined sailing/power trips have been proposed.
