ARC Channel Islands a great success

Despite the dodgy summer weather, Haslar extended a warm welcome to the 29 rally yachts

06 Sep2016

This year was the first ever ARC Channel Islands Rally, organised by World Cruising Club and supported by the RYA, Hamble School of Yachting and PBO magazine.  Twenty nine yachts from 30 foot upwards cruised in company from Haslar to Cherbourg and the Channel Islands, returning to Haslar 10 days later.

After a jolly Pimms reception in the sunshine on the top deck of the lightship, the weather forecast gave warning of strong winds and a large swell in the Channel, so the rally stayed in port for a few days.  There was no boredom; as well as advice and support from Hamble School of Yachting, the crews enjoyed the new Swallows and Amazons film and held their own version of the Great British Bake Off with some realistic island-shaped cakes.

Dates are being finalised for 2017, and we look forward to welcoming the next edition of the rally to Haslar Marina.
