Meet the Crew
The Haslar crew keep the largest of our marinas running smoothly.
Samantha Millerchip is the office supremo and keeps the day-staff in check; she also can't say no to a puppy. Ryan Deane is quality control for all sweets and crisps, and a guardian angel for yachties needing a hand. John Carroll is our boat mover extraordinaire and fount of wisdom. Martin Hutchings patrols the perimeter and works hard on maintenance and 'elf n safety. Bill Lewis and Will Mullen are the unsung heroes of the night watch. Emma May and Ian Cognasso keep the facilities shipshape. Dave Hill is the D&R gardener (and keen canoeist). Jem Mills is our new recruit and master of the new big green trike. And finally, Gary Birks endlessly fixes everything that the rest of the team break.
During the summer we're always ably assisted by a number of seasonal staff, usually students. This year we're delighted to have trainee vet Amy, computer whizz Megan, Musto skiff champ Joshua, Royal Marine trainee Connor and keen cyclist Charles.
Ben Lippiett, Marina Manager
Ben has been running Haslar with a smile for donkey's years. Ben can often be seen, legs whirling like bees' wings, flying up and down roads on his race bike, and he is the driving force behind our annual 'big green D&R bike ride', which always involves more hills than is strictly necessary.
Alex Page, Assistant Manager
Alex has been around Haslar Marina for ages. He started with red spikey hair working in Hardy’s, and then progressed over Haslar Road to become a Berthing Master with us. He then made the long trek back over the road to work for Alex Thomson’s last Vendee Globe campaign as Technical and Logistics Assistant, and has now crossed back over the road for a third time to become Haslar’s Assistant Manager. We are now thinking of blocking the road!
