Castle ruins and gardens overlooking Portland Harbour
Walk the Rodwell Trail
The Rodwell Trail connects Weymouth and Portland and is suitable for walkers, cyclists and prams.
The converted railway path starts on Abbotsbury Road in Weymouth, close to Weymouth Marina. After winding through the town, it pops out on the shore of Portland Harbour and then follows the shoreline to Ferrybridge and then along the causeway to Portland. The trail is 3.5km and is flat.
Sandsfoot Castle is on the Trail overlooking Portland Harbour. There are pretty gardens and the ruins of one of Henry VIII's castles, built in 1539.
There are lovely views from the castle over Castle Cove Sailing Club's moorings to the Isle of Portland, and you can enjoy an ice cream or a cup of tea from the kiosk.
Carry on down the road towards the Sailing Club and there is a public beach, perfect for swimming.
