Portland Yacht Club
A Yacht Club? With committees, buildings to maintain, and formalities? Not a bit of it – this lot just want to hang loose, go sailing and have a well deserved glass of wine at the end of the day.
In October 2010, a group of berth holders led by their Headmaster Rupert Fowke, joined forces in our bar, and formed the Portland Yacht Club. Almost immediately there was a cruise to the Solent with a Trafalgar Dinner on the Lightship at Haslar on Trafalgar Day. Best not to mention the Commodore going aground in Poole Harbour on the way.
Over the winter period, instead of maintaining their boats, they regularly meet up in the bar (like every Friday night), calling the evening ‘a splicing evening’ or something like that. Yeah, right.
In June half term they are planning a cruise to the West Country, and in July they are aiming for Southern Brittany.
