factoid.pngInteresting fact...

The ladies and gents signs on our toilet doors are nicked from East German traffic lights! Following the removal of the Berlin Wall in 1989, there were attempts to standardise all traffic signs to West German standards, and all East German street and traffic signs were dismantled. This led to protest and outcry, so now all pedestrian crossings in Berlin have this friendly little chap as their ‘go’ signal. Google ‘Ampleman’ for the full story.ampleman.png

IMG_0736_1_8_1_1.JPG

The marina office is manned 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Normal office hours are from 8am – 9pm. If the marina staff are out checking boats, they can be contacted on VHF channel 80, or on: 08454 30 2012

Security

A card or fob is issued to permanent berth holders giving access to the car park, pontoons, washrooms and laundry. There is also a coded keypad system at the main pedestrian gate and an intercom system at all gates.

The marina and its shore-side areas are monitored continuously by a CCTV system and there are berthing staff in attendance 24 hours a day.

Trolleys

Trollies.JPG

Trolleys are available from the car park. A £1 or 1 coin is required to release the trolley, which will be returned when the trolley is refastened at one of the designated areas. If you have a heavy or awkward load, please ask a member of staff to help you.

Should a trolley accidentally fall into the water, we will be only too happy to recover it and refund your £1! Please help your fellow marina users and promptly return your trolley after use. Trolleys must be used responsibly, no person is permitted to be carried in the trolley. The company accepts no liability for any loss, injury or damage arising from its use.

FuelNew_fuel_berth.JPG

Fuel.jpg

The marina has its own fuel berth on the end of T pontoon, supplying petrol and diesel.

Regulations on the supply and type of Red Diesel have recently changed. In a nutshell, the sulphur content of diesel supplied for use on coastal waters (1000ppm) is now different from diesel supplied to inland waterways (10ppm). Our supply remains the same, but for more info try this article from the RYA.

All of our diesel comes with Soltron, a fuel enzyme that improves the quality of the diesel.  Please click on the link for more infomation.

All Dean & Reddyhoff berth holders receive a discount on fuel sales at Portland Marina.

Electricity & Water

Water__Elec.JPG

All berths are supplied with a metered electrical point. The sockets have a locking system which enables you to lock your plug in or to lock the socket closed. You will need to supply a padlock for this system - please give a key to the marina office.

The water supplies on the pontoons are all potable.

Gas

Laundry facilities are located in the main marina building. Washing powder is available from the marina reception.

Keys

Berth holders and visitors who are leaving vessels at Portland are required to leave a set of keys with the marina office. This means that staff can access the boat in the event of any problems – and if you forget your keys, you don’t have to go all the way home again! Keys will only be released to the named owner or pre-arranged friends or contractors.
