Alistair Clarke, manager of Dean & Reddyhoff’s Weymouth Marina today presented a cheque of £1310 to Dr David Evans of Fortuneswell Cancer Trust.
The Trust supports high quality outpatient chemotherapy in West Dorset; the thrust of their fundraising efforts at the moment are to provide dedicated inpatient beds for cancer sufferers undergoing chemotherapy within Dorset County Hospital, making the whole treatment as comfortable as possible.
Dr Evans explained, ‘Chemotherapy is never a pleasant experience, but we know that our fundraising makes it more bearable for many local people. Our large project is to support a new dedicated ward for inpatient sufferers at Dorset Hospital, the details are actively being worked on now and our fundraising continues unabated. Thank you again for thinking of FCT.’
Weymouth Marina raised the money from their berth holders party held this June.
Dean & Reddyhoff do this every year at all four of their marinas, providing a bar, live music, a hog roast or barbeque of some sort and the berth holders purchase a ticket, the entire proceeds going to a local charity chosen by the marina staff. This year Weymouth tried out local restaurant ‘Quiddles’ outdoor catering unit and enjoyed a fabulous paella amidst glorious sunshine, very Mediterranean!
The team chose Fortuneswell as a gem of a berth holder, Mike Furness, has been receiving treatment at the unit and said how hard the staff worked to make the process as comfortable as possible, which is greatly appreciated.
Last year Weymouth Marina supported Julia’s House, the children’s hospice in Broadstone, both the berth holders and the staff at the marinas are very keen to carry on supporting local charities where and when they can.
