Waste and recycling
There are four locations within the marina for disposing of domestic refuse; by the car park trolley bay, A pontoon, G pontoon and adjacent to the Lightship
All mixed recycling waste collected at the marina is put through Veolia’s Material Recovery Facility. The general waste is put through a system which separates out glass for recycling (usually used as aggregate for building roads) and extracts all the combustible elements, which is then used to generate electricity for around 55,000 homes. Please visit www.veolia.co.uk for more details about their commitment to "working towards Zero Waste to Landfill".
There are also facilities for disposing of waste oil.
The Green Blue

The Green Blue raises awareness, conducts scientific research, identifies environmentally friendly products and offers easy best practice advice to anyone keen to make boating in the UK as sustainable as possible.

Wildlife in and around the marina
Haslar Marina and the adjoining creek has a good population of local and migratory birds that feed on the tidal mud flats.
Commonly spotted birds include little egrets, grebes, oyster catchers and a large array of wading birds. Rarer visitors such as ring ouzels, flycatchers, kingfishers and even various shrikes have also been spotted.
The harbour itself contains an abundance of mullet and bass (which like the sheltered waters of the marina) and have been known to be chased by the occasional seal or dolphin - so nature lovers keep an eye out while you enjoy your stay.
Port waste
Haslar Marina has a detailed waste management plan. Among other areas, we fully conform with legislation on the disposal of catering waste from non EU countries. So if you have food waste from outside of the EU, please declare it and we will provide a separate refuse bin (which will then go off separately for incineration or be put in a very deep hole!).
Carbon Trust Audit
As another key part of our commitment to the environment, we have had a carbon trust audit recently undertaken. As a result of this we have made many changes including;
* Switching to energy efficient lamps in the offices.
* A gradual change to LED lighting on the pontoon bollards.
* Lagging of boiler pipes.
* Increase in use of PIR (sensor activated) lighting.
* Decreased water consumption by lowering toilet and urinal flush volume.
* Encouraging company 'ride to work' schemes.
Please do not throw your rubbish overboard
We would be most grateful if you could make use of one of our four refuse compounds.
