factoid.pngInteresting fact...

The Isle of Wight is said to be the world’s most haunted island. Phantom monks, grey ladies and poltergeists, smugglers, soldiers and Romans all delight in the powerful ‘ley lines' running under the island. Who ya gonna call?

Marina Office

The marina office is open every day of the year. During the summer months, the office is open from 8.00am until 8pm. During the winter months, the office is usually open from 8.00am until 5.00pm. If staff are out checking boats or assisting a vessel, they can normally be contacted on VHF Ch. 80, or on 01983 29 39 83 with an automatic diversion to a mobile phone.

The marina has excellent washroom facilities located on the ground floor of the marina building. The 'club style' washrooms are smart and modern and centrally heated, with plenty of showers and basins for everyone. They are cleaned regularly, and are often said to be the best in the Solent! There are separate male and female facilities and there is a wheelchair accessible/family washroom, complete with baby changing facilities.

Security

Maintaining the security of the marina site is a primary aim. An electronic proximity fob is issued to permanent berth holders giving access to the pontoons and washroom facilities. There are also security gates at each entry point to the marina. The entire marina, gates and carpark areas are continuously monitored by a CCTV system.

trolley_small.gifTrolleys

Trolleys can be found in the large car park and require a £1 coin or €1 deposit for their use. If you have heavy or awkward loads, please ask a member of staff for assistance and they will be happy to help.

Laundry

A laundry room complete with large capacity washer and dryer is located in the marina building and is available 24 hours a day. The entry code and washing powder are available from the marina office.

Tara_keys_fx_150.jpgKeys

Berth holders and visitors who are leaving vessels at East Cowes are asked to leave a set of keys with the marina office. This means that staff can access the boat in the unlikely event of any problems – and if you forget your keys, you don’t have to go all the way home again! Keys will only be released to the named owner or pre-arranged friends or contractors.

Electricity

All berths are supplied with electricity points. Currently there are both metered and card operated bollards. The metered supplies are read on a regular basis and berth holders are invoiced accordingly. Card operated supplies can be activated by purchasing a card from the marina office. Berth holders will be allocated an individual socket. You can supply your own padlock and lock your plug in or the socket closed. Please remember to leave a key with the marina office.

Water taxi

A number of operators provide a water taxi service between East and West Cowes and there is a

designated pick-up point in the marina. Sally Water Taxis can be contacted on VHF channel 06 or by Mobile Phone on 07831 331 717.

water_small.gifWater

The water supplies on the pontoons are all potable and are checked regularly for water quality.

caitlin_cycle_6kb.JPGBikes

We have arranged with Top Gear bike hire to have some bikes available for hire on site at the marina in the summertime. If what you want is not available here, they will deliver what you want by arrangement.

The Isle of Wight Tourism site has great printable cycle tour maps here.

Gas

Supplies of bottled gas are available from the marina office. Cowes Harbour Fuels also supply Calor gas from their barge in the river.

Fuel

Fuel is available from the fuel barge of Cowes Harbour Fuels, located on

the west side of the river just south of the chain ferry.

Lallow's Boatyard also supplies fuel from its pontoons just south of Cowes Yacht Haven.

Ice

Ice can be purchased from the marina office priced at £1.50 per bag.

Internet_small.gifInternet

Two free of charge internet points are available in the marina reception area during normal office hours.

Wireless broadband is available free in the marina reception.

Internet_150.jpgWireless broadband internet access is also available throughout all Dean & Reddyhoff Marinas. This service is provided by BT OpenZone. For more please ask at the marina office.

Telephone

There is a public telephone located in the entrance lobby of the marina building. It will accept 10p to £1 coins.

Recycle_small.gifWaste and recycling

There are two locations within the marina for disposing of domestic refuse: the compound in the centre of the smaller car park and the waste containers on the pontoons in the visitor area.

All waste collected at the marina is put through the Isle of Wight’s Resource Recovery Facility. This new system separates out metal for recycling and extracts all the combustible elements (paper, plastic film, plastic bags, polystyrene, and other packaging wastes) for conversion into fuel. This is then used to generate electricity for around 3,000 homes on the island.

Refuse_jump_150.jpgThe only recyclable materials that cannot be collected through this scheme are glass and cardboard. Separate bins for recycling glass bottles and cardboard can be found in the compound in the car park.

There are also facilities for disposing of waste oil.

Mail

The marina office will happily accept incoming mail if it is appropriately addressed to include the boat name. Mail will be held for a maximum of 45 days. We are also happy to accept stamped outgoing mail for posting.

Contractors

East Cowes Marina has an open policy towards contractors working on your boat. Contractors are allowed free access, so long as they are adequately insured for all third party risks and do not cause a nuisance to other berth holders. Please let the marina office know in advance if you wish your keys to be handed out.

ECM_eve_1_200.jpgBorder controls

If you are departing for, or arriving from, any country outside the EU, a customs form C1331 will need to be completed. This includes those travelling to and from the Channel Islands. Forms are available from the marina office or from the HM Revenue & Customs website.
